I love this cover. The octopus manages to look as though it just wants to be friendly and helpful. If you squint the whole thing could be an episode of "Flipper" from an alternative universe where it's about a 'pus rather than a dolphin. Called "Tentacle", I suppose.

Ia! Ia! Flipper f'thagn!

Ev'ryone fears the king of the sea
So many arms and colours has he
Sailors and lobsters tremble in fear
And ladies shriek when he's near!

They call him Sucker, Sucker, slimy and frightening
No mollusc you'll see is smarter than he!
And we know Sucker is waiting to pull you down under
And tear you asunder, under the sea!

Sorta.

I'm not usually a filk fan but I do like butchering the occasional classic TV theme.

I was going to make a comment saying "Haw haw, I read the title of that as 'Spicy Adventure Stories'", but it is actually called that. Huh.

Some of the pulps have pretty hilarious names. "Man's Life" ("Weasels ripped my flesh!") and "Man's Conquest" ("The Incredible Hareem of Dr. Heeber!") both spring to mind.

It's funny, compared to a lot of drawings today, her body is almost completely *normal* -- which is the first thing I noticed.

However, the shadowed look of horror around her eyes is quite something. She looks like her skull is halfway showing already...!

See, I thought it was the kind of 'shadow' that comes in a little jar with a brush. Although how she manages to keep it from smearing in the water is beyond me.

Octopus fails at menacing. "Here, let me help you with your... oh. You're not wearing a coat. So sorry!"

Almost Art Nouveauishishish
