More religious silliness
Oct. 6th, 2005 06:19 pmTen Plagues Finger Puppets. They look so friendly! (Man, I'm gonna cash in on this and make finger puppets of Tiamat's monsters.)
The Web site mocks all sorts of dodgy junk, but includes one entirely sensible item - a mobile phone jammer for funerals, mass, etc. I should carry one around the library!

Hair-raising!
Oct. 6th, 2005 06:59 pmI'm just listening to the 1938 Orson Welles War of the Worlds radio play. It's terrific! When they cut back from the action at Grover's Mill to that damn dance music, you're like "Argh!" And then when the outside broadcast SUDDENLY CUTS OFF... "Circumstances beyond our control..." This is great!
ETA: "A quick thrust and it'll all be over."

Femininininininininininity
Oct. 6th, 2005 10:06 pmWith our recent discussion of "femininity" in mind, two snippets:
Femininity back in fashion. Specifically, "Prada has long been the house that lets women be women rather than squeezing them into impossibly tight trousers and mini skirts that only skinny teenagers should wear." (However, there can't be one size 14 in the parade of zombies illustrating the item.)
From Fred Pohl's story Generations in the September 2005 Asimov's:
We went there in her car because it was a Beamer convertible and a lot more comfortable than my old Corolla, but she politely asked me to do the driving and didn't criticize when I did.
This puzzled me - I assume she had him drive because that's the man's job on a date.
