I'm staggered by the news that Craig Hinton has passed away. He was 42, just four years my senior.

There are a handful of details, and numerous tributes, over on Outpost Gallifrey.

I have this belief I can't shake that the human race will become extinct in a fairly short timeframe. When I read some of the responses to the story of the Florida man who was attacked by an alligator - that, since he had smoked crack before the alligator criticially wounded him, he deserved to to be torn apart and consumed while nearby people listened to his screams - I am somewhat less sad about this. A species which so casually expels its own members ought not to survive. On the other hand, three human beings risked their lives to save the alligator's victim; you have to wonder what they make of jeers that the man was a worthless addict who should have been left to die.
