I'm staggered by the news that Craig Hinton has passed away. He was 42, just four years my senior.

There are a handful of details, and numerous tributes, over on Outpost Gallifrey.

Bloody hell, we have taken a casualty.

I was stunned. I never met the man, but he always seemed a really nice guy online.

:(

He was such a sweetie to me at tavern. I always loved chatting with him. This is so sad.

There are no words.
Except that his Wiki entry was updated less than two hours ago.

I'll miss him, either at the Tav or Gallifrey One. BTW, there's an interview with him, linked on his Wili page, that speaks very highly of you.

Craig accomplished something I thought was impossible, and could certainly never have done myself: he wrote good Mel. I enjoyed Millenial Rites like a pig.

I saw Bonnie Langford once mentioned as the worst thing to happen to DW...
I loved "MR" too - I spent part of a Biochemistry lecture reading it because I couldn't put it down!

I enjoyed everything I read by him, including Millenial and Crystal Bucephalus.

I think he really started the whole trend to rehabilitate both Colin Baker's Doctor and Mel back with that book.

Tragic.

As a Mel fan, this means that I will of course have to purchase the book. It's sort of funny how he'll influence fandom for years yet.

I only met him once, he was a real diamond. I loved Millenial Rites too, it was the greatest fanfic ever professionally published.

Fuck, I was in the Tavern three days ago and Matt Marshall said he thought he saw Craig there. I don't know the details of what happened yet so don't know how likely that is, but this is a terrible day.

I loved talking to him at Tavern, and he always did talk to me, and was so nice and no matter how crappy things were for him he took time out to ask how things were with me. And now my brain is trying to work out I won't see him there, or elsewhere again.

Not a very good statement, but i'm not sure what else to say.

I'm just sitting here shocked.

How did he die? 42's no age at all.

According to OG, he was found after police forced entry to his flat. There aren't any more details as yet.

Oh god. That's horrible. The Crystal Bucephalus was the first DW novel I ever read . . .

Far too young to lose such a talent.

Crystal Bucephalus was the first Missing Adventure I really liked. I enjoyed Millennial Rites and Godengine too.

It's so sad.

I went onto Outpost Gally to repost something amusing, and came across the announcement. I'm going to miss him so much.

I'm just in shellshock right now. And I knew, before I even checked, that we have one of his stories in the Cat2 lineup.

I don't know what to do. He was a genuinely nice guy, and... I have no words. "It's not fair" springs to mind.

The guy was my champion when everyone else thought I was an evil git with a secret agenda.

He put in good words for me and got me an inch away from publication.

He was the only writer to give me credit when he borrowed my ideas.

And he was the only gay friend I had who openly admitted that he fancied me.

He even made me an antagonist in one of his books. I'm so gonna miss him.

Almost half a year later, and I still miss him. The Doctor Who comics mailing list he was on just hasn't been the same.
