Right - I've got a classic rock radio station playing through iTunes with the Visualiser on ("Layla!!!"), I've got a little fan blowing cool air at my head: it's time to make a major assault on Quiet Game. Read the 9,960 words I wrote back in July; identify the major plot problems which still need solving; decide whether to send the first three chapters plus synopsis to my agent as a novel proposal, or to just sit down and write the whole bloody thing and see how long it comes out.

Oh for heaven's sake, I just nearly named a character "Cream Horne". Everyone comment with interesting but less stupid possible first names.

I'll tell you a weird thing about being one of the Who novelists. I haven't actually published a novel since 2003, well before the new show and the influx of new fans. This means that a huge number of fans have never heard of me, which sometimes trips me up when it's relevant but I can't work out how to work it into the conversation without sounding like an ego monster (marthagate being a good example). But I prefer those fans to the ones who have heard of me and have envy issues about BNFs! :-)

In short, I don't get no respect.

After an entire day spent editing that first ten thou or so words of Quiet Game, the niggling initial suspicion that it doesn't work has slowly, slowly grown into a great big hairy ball of OH SHIT BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD. Cock a doodle doo. *eats own head*
