Jun. 12th, 2008 11:34 amRewrites on draft zero of Acc Dragon today, in the hopes of turning it into draft one. I'm watching a doco called "Game Over: Kasparov and the Machine" about the Deep Blue match. Cool documentary, worst DVD transfer I've ever seen. ETA: Bloody awful sound, too. And no subtitles! Why is one of the interviews delivered in a whisper, even though the interviewee is identified in the end credits?
ETA: Ungh. Almost made it to draft one - that is, no scenes with notes to [come back and write this bit]. Managed to add a proper ending too. Should finish tomorrow, no wuckas.

Jun. 4th, 2008 06:30 pmI have no idea how many words of Acc Dragon I wrote today, but it's currently 8500 words long. The real possibility of finishing the fucker, this very week, dazzles me. I have no idea when I started it - its first mention in this LJ is in July 2007, and describes me as "getting back to the novel". Looks like I chucked that and started on the short story version in February this year.
Things which aren't writing:
- watching clips of James Burke on YouTube.
- trying to puzzle out what the guy in I Can't Go For That no can do. Marry her, I suppose.

Acc Dragon deathmatch update
Jun. 2nd, 2008 01:10 pmI've only written a few lines this morning, but I've done something much more useful - got the whole first half of the story to make sense. All it took was to move a couple of scenes around and it all suddenly slotted into place.
Next task is to write the epic drama of a chess match. *goes to find the 10000000000 books on chess have bought*
And now: lunch.

... right, where the hell was I?
Accelerated Dragon. Overall plot OK, individual scenes need plotting, maybe 1/3 written. Pull out finger and finish.
The Burning Room. Owe co-author character outlines.
Wild Honey. LORD TAKE ME NOW. Still have no idea of how to make last third work. Put in folder for later.
Strawberry Peppermint Stamp Collection. Maybe 1/2 written. Need to plot ending properly.
Co-written novel with Jon which I shall arbitrarily codename Ambitious But Rubbish. Need some proper plotting sessions.
Macquarie Uni VC's essay writing competition thing. 2000 ww due 21 July. Possibly about maternal grandfather?
Cobra-Cobra. Just a few random ideas, really. Put in folder for later.
Oh gods, all these half-arsed, half-finished projects. At this moment, I'm sick of the sight of the lot of them. *headdesk*
ETA: Forgot one - literally half a page of scribbled lines, codenamed The Travelling Preservation Society, which is a bloody awful working title.

Apr. 18th, 2008 11:58 amNow I'm functional again, I'm stuck back into the writing. Yesterday I lurked at the mall, trying to combine all my notes for Accelerated Dragon into a single annotated ms; this morning, they're going into the computer. With the plot kinks sorted there soon won't be any excuse to do anything other than sit down and finish the unfinished scenes.
Start-stop, start-stop, takes forever to get anything done.

Feb. 29th, 2008 06:40 pm... Frankus also just deleted the damn posting I was writing. &*(%)*&
I wrote a bunch of notes today, some on a scene I've been stuck on in Accelerated Dragon (original SF short story, the chess one), some for a new original SF thingy I'm not quite sure what I'm doing with, code-named Cobra-Cobra. Plus I wrote part of a scene this morning before I even left the house (hi Q!).
I'm just going to write like crazy until the sanity goes again.

I've got three writing projects seriously on the go right now:
1. Wild Honey, formerly Earth Park. The bees one. Doing some rearranging and rewrites on this. I hope to stick to the story until it's finished.
2. The Accelerated Dragon, a complete rethink of Quiet Game. The chess one. I've made a good start on this, but should leave it aside until I finish #1 above.
As with #1, this isn't a little rewrite, where you go back and cut out a few adjectives. The more crap you write, the wider your focus becomes, until you're throwing out and sticking in whole scenes and characters. Word lengths are therefore pretty much meaningless at this point.
3. The Strawberry Peppermint Stamp Collection, which I'm mucking about with when I get stuck on the other two. :-)
... four, actually, since I've still got eight beefics to write!

Nov. 21st, 2007 03:05 pm1000 words so far1 of the all-new, less-crap Quiet Game, which needs a much more exciting chess-related title 2. Any suggestions? (You guys came up with great character names, even if some of them were very silly. :-)
1. And two fuckknuckles pwned online. I'm having a good day!
2. There is an actual chess book called Secrets of the Sicilian Dragon! How cool is that?!

Nov. 20th, 2007 01:52 pmOh for heaven's sake, I just nearly named a character "Cream Horne". Everyone comment with interesting but less stupid possible first names.
I'll tell you a weird thing about being one of the Who novelists. I haven't actually published a novel since 2003, well before the new show and the influx of new fans. This means that a huge number of fans have never heard of me, which sometimes trips me up when it's relevant but I can't work out how to work it into the conversation without sounding like an ego monster (marthagate being a good example). But I prefer those fans to the ones who have heard of me and have envy issues about BNFs! :-)
In short, I don't get no respect.
Back to work, woman!
