Quick refugees update
Nov. 6th, 2013 10:15 amI've been ETA-ing stuff onto the end of my last weekly posting, but before I go on this trip I wanted to quickly remind you that Labor is currently debating whether to support the reintroduction of Temporary Protection Visas.
Now is the time to email the Shadow Minister for Immigration, Richard Marles, and let him know you oppose TVPs and that Labor should oppose them too. His email is: richard.marles.mp@aph.gov.au
PS This is the text of the email I sent - feel free to borrow / modify it:
Dear Mr Marles,
Temporary Protection Visas are harmful and ineffective. They will cause further psychological damage to refugees, and may cost additional lives as families try to reunite via rickety boats. If the government's claim is true and the boats are stopping, reintroducing TPVs is pointless. Please oppose the reintroduction of TPVs in Parliament.
Yours,
Kate Orman
