Mid-ocean stand-off as Australian customs vessel tries to turn back asylum seeker boat to Indonesia
Jakarta sparks boat standoff
Asylum seeker stand-off delays navy sex assault investigation
Abbott government ends asylum seeker stand-off with Indonesia (The ship, with 63 asylum seekers aboard, made it to Christmas Island in the end.)
No comment: government silent over fate of asylum seekers. (The interview transcript will blow your mind.)
ETA: One of those non-existent pregnant women on Nauru was flown to Australia and gave birth via C-section on Wednesday. (This was the woman thought to be having twins, but scans on the mainland showed a single baby.) The woman, who fled Myanmar, states that she was kept in a tent for two weeks, unable to sleep because of the heat, and was sometimes served unsafe partly-cooked food. Not surprisingly, she fears for the lives of her children (the newborn, a four year old, and an eleven year old) if they are returned to Nauru. Ask Immigration Minister Scott Morrison to promise that no pregnant women or new mothers are sent to the inadequate offshore facilities.
