As some of you will know, Jon & crew are hard at work on The I Job, a radio SF drama which will be broadcast and podcast in 2013.

Meanwhile, my short story from COSMOS magazine, Head Case, is now available online for your perusal. :)

And it's a good one, too.

I think it's one of my better attempts. :)

Many of your short works read like they've been snipped from a larger story. Differently, this one does not- everything is there to make it a short story, although there's easily enough interesting background material to expand upon as well, if you ever wanted to. And I like that - sometimes, it's nice not to be left wanting to know more, I suppose.

Plus, it's creepy.

As a side note, I admire those authors who wrote/write numerous short stories/novels that are all part of the same universe, even when the stories are unrelated (Andre Norton, for one.) I don't think I'd ever be able to keep it all organized, myself!

ION, I finished re-reading "RotLD" this morning. Just wanted to ask - was there an intentional "Yes, Minister" joke in there? (Albinex, M'Kabel and the Doctor on the former's yacht, the line about not being able to be a sensible megalomaniac.)

I can't remember, but given how many in-jokes I used to cram in, almost certainly yes!

(btw, the kitty in your icon is currently washing his armpit on the sofa as I struggle with a short story. :)

Also, that's a very engaging story! It feels like it could be a prequel to "Dollhouse", as well as standing on its own. *Shivers slightly*

Greg Egan's "The Jewel" is one of the most terrifying stories I've ever read - I recommend it if you're interested in the unsettling possibilities of copying human consciousness.

Yes, very engaging. I'm amazed at the suspense you packed into a tight space.
