I was fiddling with my iPod (other MP3 players are available) and had a look at the small number of videos I've taken with it - one of otters, and five of Frank and Tim, mostly of them cuddled up together asleep on our bed. The very last one, though, is from the day Frank left us, some hours before the vets arrived. Jon is kneeling by the bed, and Frank is comfortably curled up, sleeping with his head cupped in Jon's hand. By that stage the little guy had terribly wasted hind legs, an icky eye infection, was knocked flat by his last-hope chemo, and would no longer eat or drink. But you can't tell any of that looking at the tiny rectangle of the video. He looks absolutely content.

That's a nice video to have.

It's a reminder that everything is OK after all.

Hello Kate:

A sudden fit of mid-nineties nostalgia led me here, and prompted me to log into LJ for the first time in years. Despite the melancholy of the above post, I hope I've found you well.

I was a Dark Circus subscriber and occasional letter writer back in the day (Stephen Lord, Adelaide SA). A recent discussion with a friend about perpetrators of online or lettercol arguments being perfectly civil in person reminded me of one of your Question Mark articles on that very subject, and idle thoughts along the lines of 'I wonder what she's up to these days?' helped me find my way to your blog.

The X-Files, and later Millennium, tempted me away from Doctor Who during the dry spell between the classic and new series, but I came back on board in 2005 and remain as crazed a fan as ever. Unfortunately I lost track of the NAs during the wilderness years and haven't kept up with your work since Sleepy. I'll rectify that once my to-read pile no longer crosses an international time zone.

I write moderately supernatural crime fic nowadays and, when I'm not running Adelaide's first and only crime writing group, I strive for a happy medium between Thomas Harris and Douglas Adams. 'Tain't easy.

All good wishes to you and yours, whether they have two legs or four, and I'm glad to see we share an appreciation for Rush and Iain Banks (RIP). If memory serves, I discovered both the same year.
