ISTG I will not write my next novel in the present tense and thus have to spend half my time changing verbs when I accidentally slip into past tense. (Though heaven knows I've got so used to it I might end up slipping into the present all the time. Oy.)

I was considering making all the characters in the next book female, which would solve several problems at a stroke, but I've just realised the pronoun confusion this would cause. Double oy.

Have you read Ancillary Justice by Anne Lecke? She has a first-person protagonist who, by her nature and culture, ends up using the female pronouns by default.

This. It's a good and very interesting read.

I shall seek this out, if only to see how the author manages it! :)
