You know, I sort of get irritated when I read some of these articles. The contents of Chicken McNuggets have been known for a long time, certainly in the nearly 20 years it's been since I worked for McD's. Yet everyone's all surprised and outraged when someone reminds them that they're eating cheap, nasty crap.
Just like the rumor of years back that they're actually eating something other than beef in the hamburgers. Nope. They're 100% USDA approved ground beef. The same stuff you could buy in the store with about 25% fat content (because that's where the flavor is) ....it's just processed and frozen. If you've ever worked at a decent McDonald's, and had a burger cooked fresh and to spec, it's not actually too awful. (But these days that's rarer and rarer -- mostly it's nuked leftovers that were horribly overcooked in the first place.)
Mind you, the Shakes cannot legally be called milk shakes. They are made of kelp and other ingredients....but they're not as scary as Wendy's Frosty, an alleged "shake" which doesn't even melt when sat in the sun for a few hours.
It's our demand for mounds and mounds of instantly accessible cheap food we can eat on the go that are killing our society, both figuratively and literally. I'm as guilty as the next guy (and I'll confess, I love fast food breakfasts) but at least I'm not fooling myself. :)

The local Chili's bears the slogan "Get in. Get out. Get on with your life", as though eating is at best an time-wasting inconvenience. Bring on the nutrient pills.

But when I cook for myself, I try to do better.
