Good evening, and welcome to Babylonian Bible Study. :-) Tonight's reading is Genesis 14. We've exploded into an action movie! Armies! Kings! Loot! Slaves! Fabulous names! Slimepits!

- Ooo - who's Amraphel? (*Googling noises* Hammurabi, apparently.)

- Could the place name "Ashteroth Karnaim" be our second mention of foreign gods?

- Which side of Damascus would be its "left hand"? (For the Aztecs, it'd be the south.)

Maybe the "left hand" is a hand statue...Ok, I've spent too long at school and am degrading into B grade steaks...That made no sence...

Wee look at the orange fireengine that is actually red *toddles away*

I gotta admire you Kate, how you can plow through that antiquated translation. There's got to be a better and more modern one of the Net. Both the Artscroll Torah and the Living Torah (translated by Kaplan) are far more use friendly. They definitely don't use terms like "smote".

For really user friendly, I'd be reading the "Good News" version. :-) But the KJV is quite lovely, if a bit tricky in places. I'll add the translations you mention to my list of alternative versions to have a look at - ta!
