I am starting to genuinely suspect I have some degree of face-blindness. (How the heck do you get tested for something like that?!) Or maybe it's just social awkwardness: I can't remember anybody's name, either. ANYWAY. I wonder if I tend to use peoples' hair as a way of recognising them. Change the hair, and I'm forced to see the face. Or maybe it's just that Ed's short, straight red hair is my closest reference point. Or maybe it's just that slightly cheeky expression I'm wearing. :)
I definitely use hair as my initial means of recognising children whom I teach. This makes me appear to be a racist, or not to care about their names, and it's just not possible to explain to two girls with identical blond ponytails that I can't see their faces because their hair is so impossible to tell apart.
(I enjoy that your hair is like mine, and even when it's "straight" it's really just code for "mostly not curly". Also that like mine it's not going to stay that way for long.)
It would never have occurred to me to try and straighten it - but the hairdresser, an irrepressible giggling madwoman, was halfway through the process when I realised what she was up to! :D (She must have hypnotised me with that head massage. Yeah, that's it.)
Okay, I've apparently got a case of stereotypical guy!blindness because at first I thought you meant the orientation of the photo and thought, "Yeah, that is pretty level..."
