Pimping my little
greennotebook, now ready for public consumption. When I come across a fresh word, one I didn't know before, I make a note of it and look it up - might as well do it in LJ! Plus there's some general English and linguistic stuph.

More linguistic trivia I heard somewhere: "Testified" comes from the Latin, and relates to "testicles". Apparently the Romans, when taking a solemn vow, wouldn't cross their heart, but rather put their hand on *another* body part that was very important to them. So to solemnly promise (to tell the truth, f'rinstance) became known as testifying. Thus we now have words like testament, testimony, etc. in our language. Is that bizarre or what?

(BTW, I've taken the liberty of mentioning your Daemon's/Theban alphabet observation on RADWM. Is that ok?)
Speaking of self-pimping... Usenet poster papped: http://muse.cream.org/bemli/spumli/
Not that I expect people are desperate to see pictures of me.
