Hell's bells. Why does OS X reckon that graphics as small as 4 K take up an entire 1 M?

Apparently if a 1MB file existed on that space on the disc before, and it is overwritten by a 4K file, the filesystem keeps the space reserved for 1MB. At least that's what I've heard.

Nope-itty nope - when I added a preview icon, the file size grew to 2 M?! My eyes pointed in various directions, I don't mind telling you.
