As some of you know, I put my foot in it yesterday - specifically, a hole in the ground, and sprained my dodgy right ankle yet again. It made a horrendous snapping noise, like the sound you hear when you wrench off a roast chicken's leg - mercifully, x-rays show all bones intact, and the doctor explained that the snap is the sound of a ligament going boinggg. Anyway, thanks to Jon and my Dad coming to the rescue and much kindness and good wishes all around, I'm rapidly recovering, and should be off the crutches in a day or two. Certainly the amount of swearing has diminished. I'll tell you the embarrassing story of how I ended up rolling around in agony in the next door neighbours' yard in a bit - lots of work to do today.

[livejournal.com profile] zazuomgwtf, you seem to have started a fad.

Poor Kate! I did the same thing with my left ankle and the snapping sound was horrible. Hope that you are cossetted and loved and treated like royalty while you rest your ankle. Watch out for large housecats insisting on sitting on your ankle. *g*

Frankus obviously feels guilty about his expedition next door, as he's been making a point of staying with me on the sofa. :-) I didn't appreciate it when he walked across my ankle at 3 am, though.

I've rolled and sprained my ankles numerous times, and it never ever gets any better.

Get well.

You were probably doing something manly and useful at the time, like sports, rather than trespassing in pursuit of a hairball. :-)

One of those times I was merely walking from one end of the living room to another when BOOM I was on the ground. Go figure.

Ow, ow, ow. I wrenched the ligaments in my knee in much the same fashion - *right* as a football training session ended! As I was jogging back to the group, I planted my foot right in a rabbit hole, and crunch. I was down for the count and out of action for the last two weeks of the season, and boy, was I pissed (not to mention in a great deal of pain).

I'm told that breaking a bone hurts much *less*. I'm not wanting to find that out, oddly enough...

That wasn't the first time I've done in my dodgy ankle, and it won't be the last... I should put together a kit or something, with bandages, colouring in books, and snax for the sofa. :-)

Believe it or not, there's actually an LJ community, whose username escapes me right now, that people post colouring-in jpegs to!

Ah! Found it - [livejournal.com profile] colouringbook!

Poor ankle. My ankle wants to write a sympathy letter, but it's having trouble holding a pen.

so does it have the club at the end of its tail or no? I doubt that you have properly classified the situation. For edification, here is a simplified version of one possible evolutionary tree (cladogram) from wikipeadia:

Ornithischia (the "bird hipped" dinosaurs)
Thyreophora (armored herbivores)
Stegosauria (spikes or plates down their back)
Ankylosauria (the tanks)
Nodosauridae (no tail clubs)
Edmontoniinae (might also include Panoplosaurinae)
Panoplosaurinae
Ankylosauridae (tail clubs)

I did the same many years ago, and ended up with it in plaster for two weeks as the ligament healed. But the hospital sent me for physio, and I had to do exercises with a large rubber band, and it's been pretty good ever since!

Ouch! Nastyness, I hope you recover soon. In the meantime, trip people up with your crutches and pretend it was an accident, that's always good for a laugh.

Ankle-sore

The other the day I fell in the playground and
my ankle twisted right round and it hurt - just a bit,
it felt throbby and sore. But I didn’t cry,
- ain’t no baby no more.

Instead I was happy, smiling with glee, my wish
had come true - it had happened to me - my dreams
had been answered and I was a dinosaur! And when asked
what type I said: an 'ankle-sore'.

Get better soon dudette! xxx

Ouch!! I hope that heals up quickly for you.I guess in this case it's a good thing that it went boing, when it could have gone riipppp! Having broken an ankle, and having torn all the ligaments and tendons in the same ankle later, I can tell you that it does actually hurt less to break the ankle than to rip the ligaments. I broke my ankle, but didn't have it confirmed until at least a week or so later. When the doctor checked it, he said it was healing well and there was no need for a cast or anything. When I tore my tendons and ligaments, I was on crutches for at least a week, and it seemed to take forever to heal. I'm glad that you're expected to be mobile pretty soon :-)

ow ow ow [livejournal.com profile] shellshear told us a similar horror story of breaking his ankle and not even realising. ow ow ow

When I went splat on the grass, I guarantee there was no doubt whatsoever that I had injured myself. Probably no doubt for some miles around. :-)

I recall reading, back when I was absolutely living and breathing football, about a goalkeeper back in the 50's who *broke his neck and didn't even realise it* during a game.

Bizarre.
