Throwing in some data into this (very satisfying and brain-exercising) discussion of Intelligent Design: statistics on beliefs about creation among scientists and the general US population. (These stats don't make clear what percentage of scientists believe that God exists but has not personally guided evolution.)

I'd be very interested to know what the numbers are like in Australia. After all, the numbers you're looking at are from the US; as the page says later on, it's very different in the UK:

Belief in creation science seems to be largely a U.S. phenomenon. A British survey of 103 Roman Catholic priests, Anglican bishops and Protestant ministers/pastors showed that:
  • 97% do not believe the world was created in six days.
  • 80% do not believe in the existence of Adam and Eve.

  • I'd like to think we're closer to those numbers than the States, but realistically I don't think we're all that different. The final numbers on the Catalyst poll might give some idea, though it was only asking whether ID should be taught in science classes. The result? 34% Yes, 66% No from 9357 votes. A little unsettling, perhaps; presumably most people voting had watched the program, which did a pretty good job of explaining why Intelligent Design isn't science.
