Since the family will be scattered on Christmas Day, we had our annual get-together and wearing of paper hats last weekend at my parents house. A fun time was had by all. I teased niece Charlotte (2 3/4) that I was eating a snake (it was an eggplant) and she got me back by pretending there was a spider on the ceiling. I taught her the useful word "flapdoodle" for debunking materteral lies.

Much time was spent searching the house and premises for the missing cat, Nachos.

From my scrapbooks. Neither of my brothers will admit to being the artist!

I also found this: a newspaper clipping about a classical music CD for gay men, entitled Sensual Classics, and illustrated with some gorgeous photos from the liner notes.

Now we have a scanner (YES YES THANK YOU dNISABA) I've been going through my old scrapbooks, getting ready to make good on my threat to show you my teenage art. Here's one of the first manips I must ever have seen. Years ago, I cut it carefully out of something, probably a student magazine ([livejournal.com profile] irritant01, I still have some of your writings and toons!). When I saw it again today, I immediately Googled up the colour original. Here goes:

(I also found what must be the first lolwho in history. Sometime in the eighties or nineties, someone wrote me a letter, which was ornamented with a photo from Battlefield and the caption, "We want... a shrubbery!")

Another extremely quoteable comic: Brian Michael Bendis' graphic novel of Hollywood, Fortune and Glory.

Given the date, this must have been another one of the comics that my brothers and obtained at various world airports as we flew home from our two years in the US. I read and re-read our small collection to death long before I began collecting in the late eighties, and this one has some great lines which I still recall.

I also recently got hold of Captain America 275. Now if I can just find that issue of Ghost Rider where he says, "Ha ha ha! I would love to see such a bloody spectacle!"

Does this guy get better looking every day?! And I don't even want to secks him!

Something about this moment from S2 of House literally took my breath away. I can't put it into words (nor can I recapture it).
