A classy and well-shot performance gives a lift to SHINee's Love Like Oxygen, a pleasing but unremarkable song.

Looking at Taemin in this - well, here's what he looks like these days (GIF not mine):

By coming in late I've missed years of mushroom-headed baby!Taemin, instead discovering him as "the young man poised on the brink of maturity, a time that the Greeks saw as the apex of masculine perfection." Even now, with only Taemin-ah still in his teens, the band will switch confusingly between sexeh namjas and non-threatening boys as required. But as a dirty old woman, I have an advantage over the fangirls in their teens and twenties: I know how handsome Taemin is going to be at forty. And seventy.

And so, in conclusion (GIF not mine):

This is a "fancam", so the quality is rough, but quite watchable. The fan has had the good idea to film the big screen, getting an excellent look at the performance. The sound is live and peppered with screams. The song is Internet War by Seo Taiji, and if I understand the lyrics correctly, the boys are singing about lewdness aimed at young women, even as they demonstrate it. Cheeky little devils.

THE INCIDENT has just been repeated - like, about five minutes ago. I know this because of fans tweeting from the concert. What a way to experience porn - in the form of brief text messages in multiple languages. GIFS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN

ETA: Literally seconds later: http://twitpic.com/akwr29

ETA: OMFG http://preciousontae.tumblr.com/post/29687079015

ETA: Tumblr is flooded with delicious snaps. I'm storing them here: http://www.tumblr.com/blog/aegyopoisoned http://aegyopoisoned.tumblr.com/

It turns out that I went so crazy over THE INCIDENT that I almost blew our Internet quota for the month...

... I REGRET NOTHING

Hmm. No, actually, I think I can withstand quite a bit more, bring it on.

A shipwar has resulted - although, as always, it's 1% people being miffed and 99% other people freaking out about the 1%. It struck me, though, that a shipwar is simply a failure of imagination. Now, imagination is something fans are very, very good at, from the simplest private fantasies to the most elaborate fanworks. If you're certain that character A is sexing character B (and these are characters, stage and public personae, we have next to no access to the real people and that's as it should be) and then something wicked occurs between characters B and C, why not just work that into the narrative you've been constructing? Plenty of opportunities for drama and filth. Or is this the equivalent of a canon war - an argument over which events that didn't occur, occurred? Why is it our preferred narrative has to be validated? Is it like the thing where new writers haven't yet realised they have the power to change every single element in their stories? Well, that's deep, back to the pr0n.

SHINee's concert last night included such a raunchy number that people in the audience were tweeting the details live. The reactions on Tumblr have been hilarious - in the best possible fannish way. Remember that delightful video of the two young women reacting to Professor Yana's stopwatch? Like that, but with more porn, funny animated GIFs, and dead bodies. (Even the dissent is largely polite and/or cheeky.)

This sort of thing.

(By a happy coincidence, these are the two members of the band I personally find the most sexually attractive. That's Taemin at right, who has just now turned 19 in Western reckoning, and Jonghyun at left with the tattoos - the names of his online fan clubs! - and the handcuffs.)

I am watching what would be a very ordinary chat show, except that the conversation is being held in Korean, Mandarin, English, and (inadvertently, now and again) Japanese, to everyone's amusement. Welcome to the future, folks!

ETA: There are so many little things I'm picking up. The word for "magic spell" is the same in Korean, Japanese, and at least one Chinese topolect. Taemin's name written in Chinese includes a character I remember from stamp collecting. How many fandoms come complete with word puzzles?! No wonder I'm hooked!

Having now absorbed sufficient "fancams" of my favourite K-pop band performing their latest single, "Sherlock", live, I believe I can now accurately render for you the audience reaction. Thusly:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
SHINEE'S BACK! SHINEE'S BACK! BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
LEE TAEMIN! LEE JINKI! KIM JONGHYUN! KIM KIBUM! CHOI MINHO! SHERLOCK! BITNANEUN SHINEE!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA ALL STOP AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH FREEZE!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH TOE JOE BABY
OH I'M CURIOUS YEAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I'M SO CURIOUS YEAH SHINEE I'M SO CURIOUS YEAH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH SOY UN DORITO
OH I'M CURIOUS YEAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BITNADA SARAJYEO BITNANEUN SHINEE
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH ***THUD***
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH TOE JOE BABY
OH I'M CURIOUS YEAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I'M SO CURIOUS YEAH SHINEE I'M SO CURIOUS YEAH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHINEE
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHINEE
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

(The THUD is me. It occurs when Jonghyun does THE THING with his hips.)

ETA: Key imitates THE THING at about 11.35 here, making me suspect it's a wholly intentional piece of terpsichorean showoffery. :) THE THING itself can be viewed at about 2.34 here, or more clearly here at about 2.55. Teojyeo, baby!

... but y'all may as well meet my bias, gluttony fairy with goddess beauty, flower boy Taemin:

If nothing else, the subtitles will amuse you. (Not that I'm complaining! Fan translation basically makes this fandom possible for me, and I'm jolly grateful for it. Besides, it's meant to be silly. :)

ETA: And here's a little sample of the lad strutting his stuff:

lol, XAMFM is accidentally playing the Japanese version of "Sherlock" for the second time in ten minutes. Not that I'm complaining (or obsessed, or anything :).

Nope, nope, not at all obsessed!

I will tell you a lovely story about fandom. Last night, watching K-pop related videos as is my current wont, I came across a clip of boy band SHINee's (slightly) bad boy, Jonghyun, crying on stage. Now, Jjong is noted for his tendency to burst into tears of joy, as when the song he helped write, "Juliette"*, came first place on the show Music Bank in 2009.

However, this wasn't a happy occasion. These kids work like dogs, and are always getting sick or injured. Jonghyun, whose ankle was bust, was apologising for being unable to dance at the concert. If you watch the video, you'll hear a chant begin to rise from the audience: "Gwaen-chan-ha! Gwaen-chan-ha!"

This sets him off sobbing helplessly, gasping "Mianhaeyo, mianhaeyo" - "Sorry, sorry." Gwaenchanha is how you respond to an apology in Korean: it's OK, that's all right, it's nothing.

I don't know whether the chant just happened, or if it was planned and/or led by the fans. But suddenly, instead of the selfishness that can give fandom such a bitter flavour, there was nothing but compassion and support. (And instead of a scowly sex puppy, there was a vulnerable twenty year old.) While watching it I may possibly have become slightly emotional.

* Everything to do with Baz Luhrmann and nothing to do with the Marquis de Sade. It's a remake of Corbin Bleu's "Deal With It", for which Jonghyun wrote original (and rather more romantic) lyrics.

I only meant to describe a character's hat, but have gone off into a lengthy meditation on the conquest of space (or rather, one of my characters has). Still have not described hat. Not to worry, it's all word count. Now for lunch and more Korean jailbait of the reality show to which I have assigned the personal title Five Clots and a Baby.

PS I jest, they're legal. And frankly too young to turn me on. But very pretty nonetheless. ETA: ho ho ho, that innocent little phase didn't last long, did it?
PPS Fansubbers get an automatic entry pass to heaven. :x

PPPS

A question we all ask ourselves at times. ETA: And one which turns out to be a catchphrase of the show and of the fandom. :)

Noel Fielding blindfolded

... ohhhhhhhhhhhh shit.
dreamer_easy: (facepalm)
I borrowed Luke Rhinehart's The Dice Man today because Gareth-David Lloyd said he liked it in an interview.

(I'd also like to note that Frankus is sitting on my desk in such a way that it's very difficult to type most vowels without flicking him in the nose.)

Oh gods. Spike is now wearing a shirt over the silver chain. The odds of this crush staying in my head are diminishing by the second.
dreamer_easy: (Default)
I'm busy rediscovering my Spike thing. Which is a weird thing - Mr Marsters is extremely fetching, but this isn't a crush, it's just that I'm a complete sucker for all that unrequited love / redemption stuff. WHAT A BIG GIRL'S BLOUSE.

I also found this: a newspaper clipping about a classical music CD for gay men, entitled Sensual Classics, and illustrated with some gorgeous photos from the liner notes.
