Chicks Dig Time Lords is now available for pre-order via Amazon. It's gonna be one hell of a book. (Check out the stuff which Amazon has accidentally stuck under "about the author", lol.)

Apr. 11th, 2009 10:33 pmFinished a first draft of the race 'n' Who essay, about 3300 words. Tomorrow: redrafting the "Chicks Dig Time Lords" piece.
YAOWP is an piece for Chicks Dig Time Lords, a collection of essays on women, fandom, and Doctor Who from Mad Norwegian Press, due to be published later this year.
Specifically, it's a reminiscence about my time in Australian fandom, then online fandom, and about being one of the few women writing for the NAs/EDAs. For the most part, writing it has been like chewing on glass. All those years as the token woman, and yet, I have never felt so isolated from fandom as I have recently. Every few years, I go through a phase with fandom where all I can see is the ugliness and obsession and overentitlement, and it's become hard to see the cameraderie and creativity. Ar well, that's what I get for being a curmudgeon. Maybe my contrariness will add a useful perspective to the collection. Which, thanks to a spot of Googling this morning, I know is going to have some killer content. :)

Mar. 22nd, 2009 01:27 pmYesterday and today: working through a giant pile of notes on Strange Flesh, including feedback from Jon (top flight as usual) and numerous cryptic scribbles of my own. Only a few hundred new words, but lots of fixes. Next week I have to get back to Yet Another Other Writing Project.
