As part of a goal of converting 10% of Sydney to Christianity by 2012, the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney is proposing spending half a million dollars on distributing the Gospel of Luke to every family in the city.

I have two questions about this plan: firstly, is this actually an effective way to gain converts, or is it spam? Secondly, what could, say, Anglicare do with half a million bucks?

(Dr Jensen has a point about most people not having read the Bible since childhood - I remember a prepubescent effort of mine to read the entire Good News New Testament, which floundered somewhere in the Acts. I'm curious about why Luke seems to be the gospel of choice for evangelism, so I must have a re-read of it.)

Do you happen to know what percentage of Sydney residents currently identify as Christians?

The number of Sydneysiders who identify as Christains is 2,637,881. I got this from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The full list makes interesting reading. According to this there are 4,833 agnostics and 5,984
aethists. 114 animists, 143 druids,

So then Jenson wants to take the Sydney Christian population from 63% and reduce it to 10%?

He wants to convert anyone to his form of Christianity. I don't think he had in mind people coverting to Coptic, Greek Orthodox, Baptist, or god forbid, Catholism.

The full list of relgions has so many strange christian denominations I've nver heard of....but no Jedi Knights.

Whatever he's trying to do, it's not working, apparently.

Onthis list, there muct be a couple of hundred different Christian sects/denominations. Of course, when Jensen saids "Christianity" he means his version of Christianity.

Opps hit the wrong button.

70,163 Hindus, 161,163 Muslims, 2,242 Pagans, 172 Panthesits, 154 Rastafarians, 349 Satanists, 260 followers of Shinto, 829 Taoists, 75 Confucionists, 68 Sukyo Mahikari (anyone know what that is?), 336 Theosophists (down from last time), 1,149 Wiccans (I think that might be up from last time) and 428,275 who didn't state their religious leanings.

Anyone who want to have a look at this let me know, and I'll email it to the.

Goddess bless the ABS.

I remember them now - their "temple" (or whatever it is) was unscathed during the Canberra bushfires.
