There's no way I'm the first person to comment on the similarity between Top Gear and The Goodies.

First I've heard - but it makes sense:

"We do anything, anytime, anywhere"

would these be the appropriate analogues though?

Jeremy = Tim? (the poncy one)

Richard = Bill? (the short one)

James = Graeme? (the smart one)

Hmm, I'd probably swap Jeremy and James. :-) Mad scientist suits Clarkson.

But Clarkson's notoriously ignorant of science (e.g. his attitudes towards climate change and identity theft)

James is shaggy enough to be Bill so maybe Richard should be Tim (being the most metrosexual of the trio)

It's not so much his attitude towards *science* that makes me think Graeme as his attitude towards *hardware*.

Plus of course, Graeme Garden is basically playing Jeremy Clarkson in "Max Warp"...

Graeme's the one who married his computer. If any of the usual suspects was to marry his car, Jeremy would be the one...

Getting terribly academic here, but maybe it's just a question of a sort of oral tradition in British comedy, that lots of things that Brits find funny date back to TW3, the Goon Show, the Goodies, and Monty Python et alii.

Torchwood Three?! Oh, wait -

Yah, there's that lineage that includes the Beatles films and the Monkees TV series - surreal sitcoms. I reckon it's all got its roots in Nonsense.

Nah.

Not enough facial hair.

Jeremy = Graham Garden
Richard = Bill Oddie
James = Tim Brooke Taylor

I reckon one well-written letter could get them on a trandem :-)

Hmmm...

I see what you're saying, but I've never wanted to slash the Goodies. ::thinks a moment. shakes head:: Nope.
