Why making ikons is good

Because when I idly looked at the cover of Beauty magazine yesterday, the Photoshopping leapt out at me. The Blur tool for the skin, the Sharpen tool for the eyes, the obviously added earring, the colour tweaks. We all know theoretically that models in magazines are corrected by machine, but this time I could see at a glance exactly what had been done.
Staring at so many photos and TV shows, so much makeup and lighting and post-production, has programmed my brain so badly to see real people as ugly, including myself. Seeing the ugliness of that artificial face was a reminder that the model has pimples too, it's just that when I look in the mirror, mine aren't magically edited out.
