Ok, computerheads - help!!! I moved a bunch of System 9 font files (via USB memory stick) to OS X 10.3.5. The new machine won't recognise them at all - it's given them the icons for generic Unix text files, and FontBook and Photoshop can't see them. I don't think this is a font problem, but something to do with shifting files from 9 to X. Anybody got any suggestions??

At a guess, I'd say your files are missing their resource fork -- a sort of companion piece that contains meta info about the file.

The key here may be the format of your memory stick. Format it on the oldest machine you have, and then read it in the newest. Macs are generally good about backward compatibility.

That sounds likely.
You could also stuff the fonts with Stuffit before you move them to preserve the resource fork.

Stuffing worked for me ... no probs using my 9 fonts on X so far with stuffing ... :)
