Except to go out at once and tape some episodes of Torahman, who defeats the villain by engaging him or her in a tricky theological debate long enough for Talmudboy to throw his metal yarmulkah and knock the baddie out.

Date: 2004-12-17 04:36 am (UTC)I just seem to recall a thread on JP a long time ago dicussing Monkey, and the vague description of some of it (boy with monkey's tail with superhuman strength, an impossibly long staff, who rides atop a cloud) had me thinking "Wait a sec, that's Son Goku from Dragonball!" Of course, both borrow from the legend of the Monkey King, Songokuu, but obviously, by the time we got to the period of the manga that on TV was known as Dragonball Z it took a very different direction...
I remember last year seeing images from another anime that based itself on the Monkey King/Songokuu legend that had nothing to do with DBZ...
