Took Frankus and Timbo to the vet today for their final FIV booster shots. Frank's close encounter with Enemy Cat on the occasion of my ankle destruction reminded me that it was time they were both immunised in case of bities from other pudeaux. Vet trips are always ugly with stress for the boys and me both - Jon came along to help haul cages and provide moral support, which made a big difference. We were lucky to strike a sympathetic taxi driver - who spotted our booking and picked us up on the way back as well! The vet and staff are lovely as well. Both cats were very brave, patient, and well-behaved, even when harassed by a goofy dog. I and they spent much of the rest of the day sleeping.

It's heartbreaking taking my cats to the vet coz thet really hate the trip and whine their little hearts out.

Baylee was supposed to get his booster shot last week. The little bugger must've known what was going on coz when it was time to put him in the cage he buggered off. We called him and called him but he wouldn't emerge.

The second mum phoned the vet to reschedule...he returns, out of nowhere, the crafty little shit, LMAO!!

Pudew Mummy fooled me by opening up the cage in another room, then picking me up and taking me in there and stuffing me inside before I even knew what was happening!

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW

Kate,

Memory tells me you know a bit about unusually rapid heartbeats.

So, spill.

Firstly, if you're concerned, see a Doctor. the intarwebs is no substitute for proper medical attention.

Secondly, I've experienced tachycardia - rapid, pounding heartbeat, starting and stopping very suddenly - in the past, after needlessly taking Ventolin for non-existent asthma. My heart will "skip a beat" if I bend over or lie in certain positions; this used to trigger the tachycardia, and the way to stop it was to lie down on my left side (awkward in the post office, let me tell you!).

I've also experienced rapid heartbeat during panic attacks, along with feeling out of breath, cold, shaky, and terrified, sometimes with tingling or numbness in the fingers, butterflies in the stomach, tight scalp, etc. The cure for these is to put a paper bag over your mouth and nose and breathe slowly. Really.

Again, off to the doc with you!

Well, yes, I am concerned, but it's for someone else. (Yes, I know that sounds weak, but my heart is one of those bits that works quite well. And I should add that my breathing and most other stuff works well, as well.*)

But thank you.

Heh. I always feel like Indiana Jones when Marianne says "Well where doesn't it hurt???" and he points to his elbow and says "Here!"

So get your friend / loved one / relative / cow orker / slight acquaintance off to the doc!

Panic attacks are a bitch. A few months ago I made the stupid mistake of coming off my medication without the doctor's consent. I was okay enough for about 5 weeks give or take...then wham I have the panic attack to end all panic attacks. I felt like I couldn't breathe the whole time, I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat. I was like that for days!! I was so freaked the emergency doc came out and knocked me out with Valium. Not being able to breathe is probably my biggest fear in the world as I had serious asthma as a child (which miraculously disappeared after a majot, major attack. Go figure). The doc put me back on my meds, but because they take a few weeks to kick in, I had to take a course of bloody beta-blockers as well.

I haven't had a proper hyperventilation panic attack for years. I still have anxiety on planes and to do with medical stuff, but nothing like the gasping, burning, end-of-the-world horrors of the full-on panic attack.

Beta-blockers used to turn a certain person I know into THE MAN WITHOUT FEAR. It was interesting being a passenger when he was driving.
