Took Frankus and Timbo to the vet today for their final FIV booster shots. Frank's close encounter with Enemy Cat on the occasion of my ankle destruction reminded me that it was time they were both immunised in case of bities from other pudeaux. Vet trips are always ugly with stress for the boys and me both - Jon came along to help haul cages and provide moral support, which made a big difference. We were lucky to strike a sympathetic taxi driver - who spotted our booking and picked us up on the way back as well! The vet and staff are lovely as well. Both cats were very brave, patient, and well-behaved, even when harassed by a goofy dog. I and they spent much of the rest of the day sleeping.

Panic attacks are a bitch. A few months ago I made the stupid mistake of coming off my medication without the doctor's consent. I was okay enough for about 5 weeks give or take...then wham I have the panic attack to end all panic attacks. I felt like I couldn't breathe the whole time, I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat. I was like that for days!! I was so freaked the emergency doc came out and knocked me out with Valium. Not being able to breathe is probably my biggest fear in the world as I had serious asthma as a child (which miraculously disappeared after a majot, major attack. Go figure). The doc put me back on my meds, but because they take a few weeks to kick in, I had to take a course of bloody beta-blockers as well.

I haven't had a proper hyperventilation panic attack for years. I still have anxiety on planes and to do with medical stuff, but nothing like the gasping, burning, end-of-the-world horrors of the full-on panic attack.

Beta-blockers used to turn a certain person I know into THE MAN WITHOUT FEAR. It was interesting being a passenger when he was driving.
