And the Monkees. Not least of all because Jack would be too busy making out with Mike Nesmith for either of them to think about being competant.

Mickey Dolenz's musical talent could take 'em, and have enough left over for a drum solo.

yes could take torchwood, but i'm not sure they could hold it - you just know jon anderson would eventually try to free the aliens, singing them a song about how we're all children of the one pure love...and then the weevils would eat him.

rick wakeman, otoh, could take torchwood singlehandedly, while simultaneously playing a four-octave bach solo. with his feet.

I think you underestimate the power of Olias, myself. Not to mention the intelligence. But then again it's a truism that anyone who believes in ultimate good has to be mentally deficient, isn't it?

Come to think of it, so could the Dave Clark Five.

And the MC5. Kick out the jams, motherfuckers.

And (somewhat more obscurely) the Phoenix Five.

OK... This idea has been nestling in my head and got firmly stuck here, so I guess I'm going to have to voice it here.

Fic challenge: Starting from the point in "They Keep Killing Suzy" where Ianto gets the phone working, and Jack says, "Who are we going to call?" - how would the rest of the episode play out if they had called:

1. The Goodies

2. The Ghostbusters ('cos that's the obvious answer to the question, right? =:o} )

3. Donna

4. Rick Wakeman
  (Jack: "We need Team Yes on this one! I forget, are you in the band these days, or not?";
Rick: "Hang on..." [CONSULTS DIARY] "What day is it?" )

5. The Press Gang.
(Lynda: "And before we commit our resources to helping you, how exactly does this situation impact upon the young people of the Norbridge area, Mr Harkness?"
Jack: "It doesn't. Not in any way. That's why we knew it was safe to call you."
Lynda: "I see." [MOUTHS TO KENNY: "This is the Big One!"]

6. Any other team you can think of.

7. But most especially, [livejournal.com profile] frankxcat. =:o>

Actually, the more I think about it, the more the parallels between TW and The Goodies become clear.

What's the betting Season 2 will start with a bright razzy new theme tune written and sung by wotsername-who-plays-Gwen, all about how they're "the good guys", over short clips of the gang's more obviously zany exploits, and with caption cards flashing up in between:

  WE
  DO
  ANYONE
  ANYTIME

I just want Tim Brooke-Taylor doing the opening narration. "The twenty-first century is when everything changes, and we've *got* to be ready! *puts on Land Of Hope And Glory*"
