International Blog Against Racism Week begins tomorrow, 6 August. Before the week officially starts, I'd like to try something a bit dodgy.

For the next twenty-four hours, you can leave an anonymous message here with any questions you have about race or racism. IP logging is off and there are no LJ Toys or other IP-capturing stuff to worry about.

I know many people are afraid to say or ask things about these subjects, for fear of looking stupid or causing offence. I'll delete anything that's obviously just supposed to be abusive, and anything that uses insulting words, but otherwise, anything goes. POC, please be warned: that means there may be annoying, frustrating, or offensive material - you may prefer not to read the comments left here.

I can't guarantee answers to questions that are posted, but I will try to respond if I can. I won't judge or lecture anyone for honest curiosity or confusion. (Keep in mind I'm just a well-meaning White middle-class liberal, and no expert on racial issues.)

The twenty-four hours is up, folks! You can still post anonymously, but IP logging is back on. Thanks for your comments!

Okay, final reply.

All these conversations have been had a thousand times, in a thousand places. Most of the people, besides that valiant anonymous poster, who might be willing to educate you about how racism works and affects both them and you, are *incredibly tired of it,* and just asking questions again is far more frustrating than helpful, because all those conversations are still on the internet and available with a cursory search on any phrases that people are using which confuse or upset you.

If one sincerely wanted to know more and learn how to help and what people of color think about it, it would not be at all difficult to locate many resources on the internet, read them, and *listen.* If you would rather hear your own voice than the voices of people who are trying, all over the internet, to tell you what's going on and why you can't see it, then I assume it wouldn't be especially productive for me to add another voice to the chorus and receive the same response.

See below. You misinterpreted the question, and [livejournal.com profile] thegameiam either did a piss-poor job of clarifying the issue, or just assumed that you were objecting to what s/he was trying to say. Neither of you is a poster child for finding common ground in the face of differences.

You presume that there is only one right answer, and that everyone who is intellectually honest will eventually come to this. In any non-quantitative field, this is highly unlikely to be true.

You've made no attempt to argue a position, and seem to be implying that if I go do enough research, I'll see that you're correct (because clearly, there is a revealed Truth to which you ar privy, and I as one of the unwashed masses am not).

I'll let you get back to preaching to the choir.
